Inside My Ride: How I Organized My Car for Function, Aesthetic, & Wellness
Because our lives should be functional, and beautiful. Furthermore wellness should extend to every area of our lives.

Let’s be real for a second: our cars can easily turn into a secondary closet, a mobile dining room, and a graveyard for old receipts. For the longest time, I felt like I was in a constant battle with the chaos in my own vehicle. But when I recently upgraded my ride, I made a promise to myself: I was going to treat it like a peaceful sanctuary—not a dumping ground.
I needed a setup that was wildly functional for a busy, on-the-go lifestyle, but it also had to look chic, cohesive, and support my daily wellness journey. After plenty of tweaking, I finally cracked the code on an organization routine that actually sticks!
If your car needs a total vibe check, here is exactly how I organized my SUV, how I keep it looking fresh every single week, and all the products I love (or wish I’d bought instead!).
My "Drop Zone" Strategy
The biggest lesson I learned? Don’t just buy random organizers and pray for the best. You have to pinpoint where clutter naturally builds up and intercept it. For me, that meant tackling three key zones:
1. The Command Center (Center Console)
I keep this space strictly reserved for items I grab most frequently. I added a console tray insert so my hand sanitizer, deodorant, travel toothbrush, toothpaste, dry shampoo, and a trusty pen don't sink into a bottomless black hole. The lower section holds my go-to car makeup bag, stocked with lip oil (no melting worries!), mascara, face powder, and blush.
2. The Zero-Trash Policy
I completely stopped relying on door pockets for trash—we've all been guilty of it! Instead, I hung a stylish boho wet-dry bag behind the passenger seat (link). It’s discreet, easy to reach, machine washable, and looks great. I secured it using these handy headrest hooks link.
3. The Glove Box Edit
I purged all the old, expired paperwork, leaving only the essentials: current registration, insurance, and—most importantly—snacks! To support my wellness goals, I’m currently counting calories and maintaining a small caloric deficit, so having healthy options on hand is a must. I packed these delicious snacks (link and link) to stay on track on busy days.
4. Drive-Safe Essentials
The Phone Mount: Texting while driving is terrible for everyone's safety. I use a holder that attaches to my rearview mirror (link)—honestly, it’s one of the best additions to my SUV.
The Tissue Holder: I picked up a sleek cylinder tissue holder (link) that slides right into a small compartment near my cup holder to keep things neat and hygienic.
Car Seat Gap Filler: This simple upgrade (https://a.co/d/0e7VCgAvc) has saved me from endlessly fishing for my phone between the seat and console. It has given me literal time back in my life—worth every single penny!
Managing the Trunk Space
Balancing work, family, and a packed schedule means the trunk can quickly turn into a chaotic catch-all. My solution? Containerize.
I added a collapsible trunk organizer (link) that stops items from sliding around while I drive. Inside, I keep a curated "just in case" stash:
A change of clothes & a cozy blanket
Reusable shopping bags
First aid kit & extra umbrella
Automatic tire inflator & extra water bottles
Because everything has a designated home, the rest of the trunk stays wide open and ready for groceries or sports gear.
Styling a Cohesive Interior Aesthetic
Organization doesn't have to look clinical or boring! I wanted the inside of my car to feel like an extension of my personal style, so I opted for a boho minimalist vibe.
To keep things elevated and intentional, I chose coordinating black interior accessories—like a sleek steering wheel cover and clean floor mats—to match the factory interior. The second you unlock the door, it feels sleek, intentional, and instantly calming.
The Chic Extra Touches:
Car Diffuser: A natural, healthy scent is so much better than synthetic air fresheners. I originally bought a white one, but I totally regret it—I wish I had gone with a matching black diffuser like this one (link).
Cup Holder Coasters: These (link). are huge time-savers. When they get dirty, you just pop them out, rinse them in the sink, and drop them back in!
Rearview Mirror Charm: A sweet little macrame hanging charm (link) for that perfect subtle nod to the boho aesthetic.
Kid-Friendly Entertainment: To keep my son happy on rides, I keep a Star Wars coloring book (link) and washable markers in the car. I also tossed in a small football for impromptu park or beach stops—play is one of the best forms of fitness!
The 5-Minute Sunday Reset
Even the best organization system will fail without a quick routine. To keep my SUV feeling like a sanctuary, I commit to a super quick 5-Minute Reset every Sunday evening:
The Sweep: Clear out any stray water bottles, receipts, or lingering trash.
The Restock: Make sure travel tissues, hand wipes, and charging cords are back in their home spots.
The Quick Wipe: I keep interior cleaning wipes in my driver's side door pocket and do a lightning-fast wipe down of the dash and console.
The Vacuum: I quickly run over the seats and floorboards with a compact cordless vacuum (link)—they are super affordable and ridiculously handy.
Taking just a few minutes to make my car setup intentional has been a total game-changer for my daily commute and mental clarity. It's amazing what a clean, organized space can do for your mood!
